Artist History
Calin has a 10 years rock bands experience. He started to play guitar back in 1990. Until 1992, he was singing and playing bass in various teenage thrash-death bands, achieving local popularity because of his incredible savage low voice. In 1993 he changed the instrument (from bass to electric guitar) and the style (from metal to 60's rock), founding another band, Hodoronc Tronc. Together with bass player Marius Ghinea and rapper Cassanova, Calin worked hard, developing a particular rap-rock style. Hodoronc Tronc released a demo tape in 1994 and the best accomplishment of the band was broadcasting on national TV of 2 of their video clips. After the Hodoronc Tronc episode, Calin founded a blues band together with other 4 musicians playing in Bucharest's clubs. In 1999 Calin finances and builds his personal PC based recording studio. The first clients of this recording studio are The Echoes, a band that Calin founded with the experienced singer Eugen Nagy. All this past experience helped Calin to be prepared for his first totally self release, the album "Radiant Shadows", where he actually did all the job, from playing the instruments, to sound engineering, from CD cover design to web site building and act management. |

Press Reviews
SplendidEzine.com : Everything about this one-man project screams death metal. With song titles like "Wedding, Mirth, No Love" and "Genosuicide," the only thing one can expect is bone-shattering abuse, right? Wrong. Actually, the instrumentals here sound like something you'd hear at an electronic Renaissance festival. Combining accomplished guitar with keyboard madrigals, Calin makes music for the Dungeons and Dragons crowd to listen to in the new millennium. While the result is usually pleasant, the keyboard tones can sometimes sound a bit low-budget, which is a shame because his fretwork is highly skilled, and with a higher budget this could easily appeal to fans of Dead Can Dance. But, like all bedroom musicians, Calin is constrained to do the best with his available budget, and by putting a great deal of thought into his work, he manages to make his talent more evident than his equipment. ######################################################### Will York (Listen.com): Romanian solo artist merges elements of Middle Eastern and Indian music with electric blues guitar, rock and hip-hop drum machine beats, and the occasional Jim Morrison-esque vocal. Imagine an irony-free, Eastern European version of Beck, though one with a slightly more reverent, Beatles-esque songwriting approach.
######################################################### The Critical Review Service (Mando@concentric.net): This artist from Europe has created a cd where he plays guitar as well as the synth. He plays every instrument and wrote, edited, mixed, produced, and delivered the whole project. The music has a bluesy feel. Reminiscent of The DOORS and similar acts, Calin explores the artsy bluesy gutsy rock. This doesn't really have an electronic sound, making the CD that much better.
In this work, Calin displays creativity and subtle moods. There are fast rocky tunes as well as slower, more nuanced ones. All these blend into this project, an album that is almost like a musical play, with various acts or a book with different chapters. One of best cuts was "Find Fire with Fire." His blend of the electronic with the electric guitar is solid. In places it (axe work) reminds of the jamming of maybe SANTANA or of some of the British metal acts.
A strong original one-man project. |
