    Artist description
Call it roots rock, "No Depression," alt-country, or any of the other labels put forth by those who follow such things. But know that Buck Diaz is simply playing the kind of music that has always come naturally to them: grungy Midwest rock melded with the best elements of traditional country music--memorable melodies, straightforward, honest lyrics, and varied electric and acoustic textures and instrumentation--all tempered by a sense of humor and a frank desire to entertain as well as edify.

    Artist History
The roots of Buck Diaz lie in Jamestown, NY, the rustbelt town in the western corner of the state where the band members' diverse musical tastes were formed. It was there that singer/guitarist Todd Larson and drummer/vocalist Derek Sampson grew up, playing AC/DC covers and refining their shared appreciation for distilled beverages and Hank Williams. Though the pair left town in 1991 and settled in Philadelphia, they still consider Jamestown to be their home, and much of their music is inspired by the particular sites and sociology of their hometown.Larson and Sampson, who have played and recorded with Emily's Prize and Ink since moving to Philadelphia, are joined in Buck Diaz by bassist David Wynn and Jim Callan.

    Press Reviews
"Buck Diaz is a buoyant ten-song romp through the rockier side of alt-country. The obvious comparison here is the Old 97s, but Buck Diaz's sound is far from derivative. While Buck Diaz favor the rhythmic feel (propelled by Derek Sampson's tasteful drumming) of those Dallas boys, they replace the 97s cleverness with a ragged soul and earnestness that call to mind Tim-era Replacements or 80s cow-punk mainstays, the Rave Ups." -- Dave Purcell, MoMZine!
