AN INDEPENDENT VIEW By: Linda Fryer July, 2000CD: WINDOWS TO MY SOULARTIST: BRANDI WARDI received Brandi's new CD, several weeks ago, and have been listening to a LOT of albums since that time. Most have been either by seasoned artists or new adult artists…but Brandi's was the exception.I don't get too much new music from such a young, new singer. And it's always an interesting and fun experience to sit down and really listen to them. Brandi seems to be having a great time, when she sings. It comes through in her work. And it's contagious! Her voice is strong, and I think she's on her way to bigger things, at least if she continues on her current track. I hope she'll not let down, and that she'll keep learning and trying new things with her voice, and her concept of how a song should be performed. So far, she's doing real well, and shows great promise. Most of the tunes on this CD, we written by Judy Rodman, and I get the idea, from the way Brandi sings them, that she is in sync with what Judy is feelin' when she's writing. That's very important for an artist, who sings other people's songs. I've heard a lot of them, who seem to be "out there on some other planet", while they're singin' someone's lyrics. And believe me, that's NOT good. Brandi sets the mood of the album, with the very first track, "Crash Helmet". (and check out "Its Time You Met My Mother"!) Its full of energy, and it carries through on the entire CD. But there are a lot of fine ballads on the CD, as well. And I think Brandi understands these "deeper" lyrics, too…it takes a huge effort to make your audience hear the feeling that a song was written with, when you didn't write it yourself. Brandi carries that off, very well. If there were anything I'd tell this young artist, it would be to work hard on the production, fine tune it, and listen to it, several times before signing off on a song. Sometimes, its only the production in a song, that can pull it down…no matter how well its written or sung. Being very sure that the production value of a record is superior, is such an important step in the final product. I sure do think we'll be hearing more from Brandi Ward, in the future In this day of younger artists, breaking into the business, Brandi has a great chance of becoming one of the hot young country music performers on the scene. She has the talent…now if she has the determination, and does her "homework", she'll be able to go a long ways to reach that…always reachable…star! Good luck, Brandi!! I like your style Brandi, and you have picked some fine songs for your first album. My preferences from the CD on my first listen would be tracks 2. Can't get enough of it , 10. Window to my soul and 11. Putting on a show.Best of luck with the album. It is Mighty Stuff! I like it and will be faeturing tracks from it during my show.Yours Sincerely, Joe Vincent.
