Press Reviews
"TV Fifty weren't just a pretty good local band. It went far beyond that. These guys nailed it. With irresistible hooks and energy worthy of the Buzzcocks, an appealing indie rock rawness reminiscent of Superchunk, and a sense of heart frequently hearkening back to the Replacements, they forged a pop blend that pushed beyond such comparisons to become something all their own. There was a headlong rush to their stuff, songs that grabbed you in a hundred different ways. Fools who scoff at pop will never understand, but those in the know realize, especially after all these years of pop songs, that a winning new pop song is not an easy thing to write. I can't explain the pleasure of following a killer melody to its conclusion, but it's in the music. It was in TV Fifty's music. These guys had winning pop songs in spades. Whether the song originated with Byron Huhmann or with Jim Crego, or even with bassist Rob O'Toole, the hooks, the melodies, and the necessary rock energy were always there." from EARPLUGS |
