Artist History
After dying out about a year ago, Symptom 7 is coming back very soon (2004).
Geoff is still guitar along with new bassist Ed and a new unnamed drummer. They begin recording Spring 2004 and may go under a new name but so far it will be called Symptom 7.
Watch for them soon.
----------------------------------------------
Symptom 7, plain and simple, is a loud, aggressive, alcohol induced 3-piece metal band from NYC. With Geoff Unger rippin' on guitar and vocals, John Blackford's thunderous bass riffs and backing vocals, and whoever smashing the shit out the drums, these three guys produce a wall of sound that is just unstoppable. "Old-fashioned, southern-tinged blues/Metal with sludgy, down-tuned guitar riffs and a general beer-drinkin' vibe..." was Lycos Music's twist on the band.
Symptom 7 is now gearing up with their 100 Proof Aggression to bring the now lagging music scene back to life again. Geoff and John spent last year doing live acoustic versions of their set, giving the crowd a taste of what was to come while they were in search of THE drummer. From acoustic to electric, Symptom 7 was finalized in February 2001.
Geoff Unger has been hard at work on the guitar for 16 years. He played in Betsy Smittle's (Garth Brooks fame) band while in highschool, appeared in Guitar World magazine and attended Berklee College of Music. Upon graduation he relocated to Dallas, Texas and formed a 3 piece called Power of Expression. He gained a variety of recognition for his playing and later went on to produce online lessons for GuitarGuide.com.
John Blackford, who has been playing guitar for 10 years, played in many local bands growing up in Brooklyn and was playing at L'Amour and opening up for acts such as Badlands, Ace Frehely, Randy Jackson at a young age. He later switched to bass where his most recent notable accomplishment was playing with a well-known Spanish-Rock band called Antigua with whom he played numerous shows throughout NYC as well as recording on the band's independently released CD.
Symptom 7 has started their aggression at the beginning of May 2001 in NYC. Look for them.
