Artist description
One of the freshest names in the Italian underground electronic scene, Paco Terio, aka Paco Dj, works with different contributors and is not just the usual dj. He plays bass as well as samplers and computers, and his influences range from jazz to house music, from drum'n'bass to classical piano and japanese movies.
After appearing in the Metalbox project in 1999, and a promo-only release in early 2000 with Akira Part 1, together with some of his contributors (Valentina Skyes, Debora Longini, MJ OB1) Paco debuted in 2000 with "Inside A Bag", his first full-length album.
The year 2002 sees the publication of his new album "...Any Doubt Funk?", a journey in a variety of styles, from nu-jazz to breakbeat and trip-hop. The tracks include: "Storciume", with a distorted medley of a Ryuichi Sakamoto hit; "Azulene 300" featuring Agua Calientes (and inspired by their original song "Azul", previously published on the "Surfin' Ska" EP by the Toast label); "Emotion I Feel", "Shadow of Love" and "I don't care" with vocals supplied by Yunis, a singer with a style of her own; a tribute to Bill Evans ("An Evans Thing") and Dj Batman seen scratching in two different moments ("Dj Funk Jazz" and " Xilum on the Moon").
In the same year "An Evans Thing" is also published by the famed Acid Jazz magazine (issue #70, published in Italy by New Sounds 2000, under license from Kutmusic) in a compilation including works by names such as Masters At Work, Dj Cam and Hammond Express. The magazine also contains an article describing Paco's career and his collaborations.
"...Any Doubt Funk?" has also rapidly climbed the charts on Emusic.com in the main Electronic and Urban/Hip Hop genres plus in other subgenre charts, and the previous release "Inside A Bag" has been rediscovered by online fans who have made it a Top 5 in the Electronic:Breaks charts on Emusic.
Other than getting rave reviews from magazines and radio airplay, during summer 2002 one of the tracks from his first album ("Akira") was performed - as an especially produced "extended" version) at Teatro Massimo in Pescara, Italy, adapted as a ballet by coreographer Irene Placidi and accompained by a cool animated video.
Recently, Paco has performed side-by-side with djs like Bruno Bolla and Massimino. There are rumours of a possible collaboration with noted acid jazz combo Quintetto X.
