Artist History
DJ Death Goat is an Alpine breed. He was born from his mother on a mountain top as are most goat turntablists. Fed up with the musical state of his home town, Death Goat left his native Ukraine in 1995 and made a pilgrimage to New York City, USA. After a few weeks in the Big Apple, Death Goat found himself immersed in the dark hip-hop underworld. Well, it wasn't really that sinister. Before long, Death Goat was performing a freestyle rap act at several local clubs and lyricist lounges. Death Goat got mixed reactions from his act. Some of the people really enjoyed his rapping, while others associated Death Goat's strange voice with the ODB and labeled him a rip-off. Saddened by the poor response, Death Goat vowed never to rap again and decided to try his hand at production. He started by building a home studio stocked with sound equipment, computers, effects processors, samplers, mixers, recording equipment, and a fridge full of beer. By the end of 1997, Death Goat had produced tracks for numerous well-known rappers and R&B acts. He also slapped a "DJ" in front of his name. Earlier that year, DJ Death Goat was signed on to co-produce a record with the producer of a popular New York rap group for an up-and-coming rapper. But unfortunately, the record label dropped him from the project. Disappointed with the way the record labels were treating him, DJ Death Goat decided to record his own independent solo material. He spent the first half of 1998 organizing his thoughts and compiling massive amounts of mixes. In the fall of '98, DJ Death Goat released his first single to rap and college radio stations as well as the local dance and hip-hop clubs. This single was called "Dolores" and soon became a huge hit in the city. Cars would drive by all night bumping DJ Death Goat's track, the clubs would fill with cheers whenever the DJ played "Dolores," DJ Death Goat became a local celebrity. By the spring of 1999, DJ Death Goat had released his independent debut album on 5vs1 records. It is called La Chèvre. DJ Death Goat got the title for the record from a time in his childhood. As a young goat kid raised on the streets in the Ukraine, DJ Death Goat had to deal Chèvre in order to make enough money to eat. Now, it was his record that would bring him the money, so he named it La Chèvre. The album received excellent reviews from many large music authorities but it never really caught on with the public. DJ Death Goat blamed this on the modern music consumers inability to look beyond Total Request Live to find new music. In the year 2000, DJ Death Goat plans to release another album, and maybe even shoot a video for it. If the public won't come to him, he is willing to do things a little differently and do all he can to reach them. DJ Death Goat in 2000, baby! |

Press Reviews
"Truly a master of his art, DJ Death Goat launches his, what will most likely be hugely successful, career with his new album La Chèvre. DJ Death Goat is one of the most innovative new artists around and is revolutionizing the electronica world. He is composing entire songs electronically regardless of genre. It's brilliant. Four stars (out of five)." - KillDoZeR, thelegion.net |
