    Artist description
Original soul music... Soulwork is Skip Jennings (vocals), Gabe Johnson (guitar), Josh Gold (keys), Ryan J. Harris (bass), and Kevin Emerson (drums). This original soul and groove band delivers soul music with a one-two punch. Formed in Amherst, MA, in 1997, and relocated to Boston, MA, in 2000, Soulwork has rapidly become one of the best live acts in modern soul music, receiving nominations in 2001 from the Boston Music Awards for *Best Funk Band*, and from the Hartford Music Awards for *Best Party Band.* In the winter of 2000 they recorded, produced, and released their first album CONNECT, which left fans reeling on the ropes. With the recent addition of members Gabe (of the Portland, Oregon groove-jazz-troupe Jive Talkin Robots) and Josh (of New Orleans funksters Honeypot), Soulwork has solidified its place as a serious contender in the ring of modern soul music.

THE BOSTON MUSIC AWARDS 2000: "Soulwork has built a reputation for dynamic live performances of original soul and funk music. Their songs feature captivating vocals reminiscent of Motown greats and a skin-tight rhythm section." THE NORTHAMPTON MUSIC FESTIVAL 2001: "New Millennium R&B/Soul and fast becoming a Beantown favorite. Soulwork exhibits one of the Northeast's tightest rhythm sections dancing just below a voice that may have Motown scurrying for a look." THE HOUSE OF BLUES: "Soul-groove quartet which features powerful vocals, razor-sharp execution and a classic, funky soul feel… Soulwork is setting the standard for modern soul." METRONOME MAGAZINE: "The funkiest melodies heard in these parts in quite some time... Funky... Chunky... Infectious... Classic..." STAR DROOKER, CLUB OWNER: "When I hear Skip sing, and I hear this band play, I get that feeling... Like I'm eight years old again, hearing soul music for the first time." THE PLANETARY GROUP: "While most bands claim to be soul music, this is the first band I¹ve seen in 10 years that actually qualifies. Having recently added Gabe Johnson (Jive Talkin' Robots) on guitar & Josh Gold (Honeypot) on keys, these guys are ready to take off. With a nomination for best funk and soul act in Boston at last year's Boston Music Awards, you gotta catch them before they get too big!" THE NORTHAMPTON ADVOCATE: "Real Deal Soul."
