    Artist History
Rodolfo 'Nava' Barrera is one of the most important latin american song-writers today. He has been responsible for 10 platinum albums and 15 gold albums and was twice nominated for a Grammy award.Rodolfo was born on the 25th of November, 1957, in Rio Pedras, Puerto Rico to an artistic family. His father, Rolando Berreras, was a filmmaker and his mother, Ana 'Nini' Rodriguez, an actress. During his studies at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazon, Rodolfo began to develop his musical talent. His name as a great songwriter was born with the first love songs he wrote for his college sweethearts. He approached Wilkins, the most popular singer of the time, and, through a series of chance encounters, succeeded in passing him one of his compositions. "A quien vas a enganar" became a massive hit for Wilkins in 1979 and Nava's career as a songwriter was launched. Yolandita Monge recorded five Nava compositions in the 80's, including "Al ritmo de la fantasia" and "Cambiando la rutina de vivir". In 1984, Charytin took his pop-rock track, "Se acabo el amor", to the top of the Latin charts and Nava decided to move to the US, forming his own rock band which toured his spanish language repertoire successfully throughout the United States.Returning to Puerto rico at the end of the 80's, Nava continued to rise as a composer, representing his country at the Festival OTIS, writing hit songs for many artists including "Que se la lleve el rio" for Gilberto Santa Rosa and releasing the album, "Comandante de la Paz". In the 90's, he launch a new musical experiment called 'Mazara Nava'. At a moment when rock in Spanish had hardly any outlet in Puerto rico, the recording, which included guest artists Eduardo Reyes and Chevy Rodriguez, bacame a source of hits for diverse singers fascinated by Nava's new approach. Pedro Fernandez, Jose Feliciano, Ednita Nazario and Lizzy Estralla all enjoyed huge success with Mazara Nava tracks. In 1998, his compositions "Serpiente Mala" and "Mi Mayor Venganza" were nominated for Grammy awards via interpretations by Merengue star Olga Tanon and top salsera, La India. "Serpiente Mala" won him the ASCAP award in 1998.Nava will be releasing his debut solo album on Rykolatino later in 2000 on RykoLatino.
