Artist History
Married for 52 years to the great Russian pianist Maria Udina who beat him with her boots, the even greater Vakhtangov loved every minute of it. He loves goat cheese marinated in codfish oil, vodka and sushi bits. Pianist, violiinist, cellist, conductor, heldentenor, baritone, basso and occassionally a soprano and prima ballerina, the great Vakhtangov made more than 5000 LPs for Melodiya before the outbreak of World War 2 and the Siege of Leningrad, during which he was mistaken for a corpse and buried alive. After that, he didn't make a single album. Now at 104 years old, Vakhtangov still scuba dives, hangs from rubber trees and chases young girls around his apartment building on Moscow's fashionable Arbat. He has terminal halitosis and wooden dentures, but they don't seem to mind so long as he pays. After all, says Vakhtangov, a ruble is still a ruble |
