    Artist History
Deepdown was born out of a mutual love for making music. The result has been referred to as a unique and refreshing sound, distinct from the norm of hard rock today. Originating in late 1997, Deepdown has been constantly striving to bring this new mix of music to the ears of the So. California music scene by way of high-energy performances, relentless self-promotion and by the love for making music that moves people. After recording their first four song CD demo in May of 98’, the band was asked to include the single “Drift” on Mike Galaxy’s Indy Hits Compilation. “Drift” was soon being added to play lists around the country, being played along side such heavyweight acts ranging from Weezer to Limp Bizkit. The band’s music also made enough of an impact to inspire phone calls from artists like Tom Morello(Rage Against The Machine) and Peter DiStefano (Porno For Pyros), claiming the demo to be “awesome” and “great, keep up the good work”. In September of 1999, Deepdown was invited to showcase at the NXNW Music Fest in Portland. The band was labeled “the buzz” of the conference by NXNW organizers and earned an invitation to perform at SXSW Music Fest in Austin, TX being held in March of 2000. Shortly after returning from Portland, Deepdown received an endorsement from BLUNT clothing, adding another element to their team of supporters. In preperation for SXSW 2000 in Austin TX, Deepdown were joined by Grammy Award winner Aaron Lepley (Kid Rock, Eminem, Tom Petty) and Micheal Huff (Christina Aguilera, Luis Migel, Jenifer Lopez) to mix three new songs. Deepdown are currently at work on the first full length album in Burbank with Aaron. Other recent accomplishments include being named one of Southern Cal’s Hottest Unsigned Bands of 2000 by Music Connection Magazine. They also pulled off a surprise performance to fans of Rage Against The Machine waiting outside a benifet show at the Roxy in May. Deepdown has also entered agreement to use “Erase” in an upcoming Tri-Mark Pictures release, as well as being featured on Japan’s Be-It Television, a show featuring Southern California culture. Deepdown is now seeking management and is in pursuit of a major label recording deal.

Deepdown at the Gig - 12.9.99 By: ^*^ Dead Lesa ^*^ Posted on: Dec 10, 1999 It had been far too long since I last made it to a Deepdown show. Last night at the Gig on Melrose reminded me of exactly what I had been missing. Deepdown consists of four, extremely talented and dedicated players that, in a nutshell, rock WAY hard. Brendan told us last night that the band is hard at work on new material and seemed really enthusiastic about the new stuff. One thing is for sure, Deepdown are constantly coming up with fresh ways to entertain their loyal, local audience. Glenn Perham, who is a remarkable singer and performer, has never once let anyone down when it comes to giving it 1000% on stage. His vocal quality has largely improved (as if there was room for improvement to begin with) since the last time I saw them about 5 months ago and he moves like someone I would LOVE to dance with. Glenn has exactly what it takes to become a huge success, as do the rest of his band mates. Because of the way the stage at the Gig is set up, the curtains slowly lifted revealing Glenn crouched down and ready for the kill. The set opened with "Decide" which sends a powerful message about thinking for yourself and controlling your own destiny. I'd say Deepdown's destiny is triumph. In the case of Brendan Morris, I always considered him to be a really focused and intense guitar player - these days he has more intensity on guitar than ever. His trancelike, signature playing style is sinuous and soothing. He always seems to remain in direct contact with his audience and he gives the impression that he loves what he's doing. The band went right into "Connect", "Drift", "Don't Care" and "Lost" with the heavy, funk-inspired grooves that Deepdown have made their own. Kris Hunter displays the same type of passion in his performance on bass as Brendan does. There is non-stop action on his end of the stage and he really knows how to play. Chris Weible (drums) is the more demure personality of the four members, but there is no mistaking that he is the one that is holding ground the entire time. The classic Deepdown song "Dive" was next on the roster, to be followed by two songs I have obviously been missing over the past months entitled "Wash", and "Erase" which were both equally amazing. To me, the band has always had a really distinctive sound; a combination of the hard stuff you crave and the melodious, quiet segments within many of the songs that bring you down just long enough for you to catch your breath before getting right back into it again. The set closed with "Start Over" and I think most of the audience was left wishing they would. You just can't get enough of the good stuff. - Lesa Pence Lrn2Hate@hotmail.com Deepdown at the Key Club 10/23/99 By: MetalBoy Posted on: Nov 3, 1999 The night of the UnFamily Values tour in the LA Area was the night that local favorites Deepdown played at the partially Halloween decorated Key Club. When I first entered the club the bars were packed with people, but the front of the stage was just about empty. No need to fear my friends, there was also no one on stage. But now the time had come for Deepdown to take the stage. The lights go down and Deepdown opens with 'Start Over'. Just about everyone in the Key Club is now in front of the stage grooving to Deepdown's tunes. It was so cool to see so many people getting down with the band, not caring what else is going on; just having a good time. 'Wash', 'Decide', and 'Connect' blast through the Key Clubs speakers. Then the lights go down, and Chris (drums), Glenn (vocals), Kris (bass), and Brendan (guitar) sit down center stage. The lights come back on and Deepdown plays an acoustic version of 'State of Mind'. I'm not sure if this was a one time thing or what, but what Deepdown accomplished was simply amazing. After the song was finished Deepdown got a standing ovation! Deepdown ended their set with 'Drift', 'Erase' (my favorite Deepdown song) and 'Lost'. I think this was the best show I've seen Deepdown play! The addition of an acoustic 'State of Mind' shows how versatile Deepdown is. Makes you wonder what else Deepdown has up their sleeve! MUSIC CONNECTIONAug. 14th – Aug.27th 2000CLUB REVIEWSDeepdownMartini LoungeHollywoodMaterial: Deepdown is a group that mixes the hardcore intensity of Korn with the melodic rock of bands like Buckcherry and Stone Temple Pilots. Just as those bands command attention, so does this band, with a power-packed set that includes songs that are like jolts of electricity. The same energy and danger that often incites fans to mosh can be found in Deepdown. With their rough and wild presence, this unit serves up material that is aggressive, tight and in your face. If you like your music heavier than the current radio-friendly pop-rock, this is the band to check out.Musicianship: Deepdown knows their strengths and the list begins with the ability to play well. Heavy bottom end, deep bass and chunga-chunga guitar work vibrated the venue to its foundation. Screaming one moment and coaxing whispers the next, Perham’s vocals were a whirling der-vish of action and passion. Coming at you like a train out of control, Deepdown has the ability to run its audience over and take them for the ride of their lives.Performance: Intense and emotional, their performance was professional and tight. Roaming the stage as he stalked the crowd, Perham pulled each audience member in one by one. Imploring them to “come a little closer,” they obeyed and eventually gave in to the power of the band. Morris and Hunter thrashed in spasms as they conspired to assault the crowd with their playing, leaving the audience exhausted and begging for more.Summary: Deepdown is a band on the verge of success. They are hardcore, aggressive and extremely talented. Indeed, they are the perfect counterpoint to today’s bubblegum pop, with songs that are valid and a show that’s well done. There is very little this band needs to do, expect to play out more until they are finally discovered. –Bernard Baur From Local Live ChicagoL.A. ConnectionSeptember 1st 2000On the Sunset Strip, the music comes from DeepdownBy Scott Perham Since the beginning of rock and roll, Hollywood's Sunset Strip has been the home to legendary performances by some of music's biggest artists, as well as a battle ground for local acts in search of a major label record contract. Sunday, July 23 was yet another eventful day in the history of the Sunset Strip. Local L.A. band turned worldwide superstars, Rage Against The Machine, returned to their stomping grounds to hold a benefit concert for the homeless at the world famous Roxy on Sunset Boulevard. The crowds came in droves to see one of the head liners of last year's Woodstock concert pack their high energy show into a small Hollywood club. Before the doors opened for the concert, hundreds of people lined up along the sidewalks of Sunset Boulevard waiting for their turn to enter, while local Hollywood heavyweights, Deepdown, lurked around the corner putting the finishing touches on the bomb they were about to drop on the city. At about seven forty five, an enormous army truck carrying the local band and all of their equipment, rolled onto Sunset Boulevard and approached the bewildered crowd. As the truck grew closer, the vocalist began working the crowd into a frenzy before the truck came to a stop in the red zone, right in front of the Roxy. The band, fully equipped with electric generators, blasted three complete songs from the back of the truck before they were notified that the police were on their way. They thanked the cheering crowd and then vanished as quick as they came, off down the crowded streets of Sunset Boulevard. The buzz lingered around the club throughout the rest of the evening, adding to the magnitude of an already enormous event. In Hollywood, the name of the game is exposure, and local bands will continue to create new ways to get their music heard. With this unprecedented event, Deepdown has forged into new territory, making up their own rules along the way. Whether this will be a turning point for this local band remains to be seen, however Deepdown's originality and enthusiasm goes to show that the L.A. music scene is still alive and kicking, and that the Sunset Strip remains the place where music history happens.
