Artist description
Daddy C, a.k.a. James Moore, is a talented singer/rapper/writer/producer from Big D. Equally impressive singing or rapping, Daddy C is a down-to-earth, guy-next-door kind of person. He’s been through the trials of life (including a life-threatening head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in 1996) and the tribulations of the music business yet he still has faith, a great sense of humor and a drive to make his dream a reality. A music lover from his earliest age, he got into the DJ business as a teenager, mixing and scratching at parties and clubs all over DFW. He could always sing and started to do some studio work here and there laying down hooks for various local rap artists. Signed with Tabu/A&M records in 1991 with another Dallas-area artist Deshay (of Vanilla Ice fame), his lyrical flow took center stage. But the Tabu/A&M deal came and went and before too long, he moved on to complete a solo R&B/hip-hop project under the name DJ Curly for a small independent label. When that label went under, he continued doing his thing, making a name for himself on the Dallas hip-hop and gospel scene. Along the way, he added production, arrangement, and studio engineering to his resume. In 1999, he hooked up with PD&P (Professor D & the Playschool) - one of Dallas' best known funk/R&B bands - and started working on this project. Their mutual passion for that old-school flava mixed together with some R&B, hip-hop, and pop influences has produced a fresh, original, and altogether fun(ky) CD so far. Like Daddy C, PD&P is no stranger to the old-school. They’ve opened for everybody in Dallas from Kool & the Gang and The Gap Band to Prince, Tina Turner and George Clinton - even some new-school favorites like Janet Jackson and the Backstreet Boys. They perform regularly for the Dallas Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. Featuring the V-Posse horns, the band is the REAL deal laying it down behind Daddy C's multiple talents. And that is one of Daddy C’s favorite things about this project – he gets to showcase ALL of his God-given abilities. He gets to stretch out a little and let it go. One song might be some rump-shakin’ music. The next one might have a funky little jazzy flavor with a lyric that’s straight-up foolishness. The song after that might break it down for the ladies and feature his heart and soul shining through his singing. But then it’s right back to the funky groove putting a completely different twist on an old favorite by EWF. Plus, in PD&P, Daddy C has a live band that matches his tremendous stage presence with their talent, energy, and personality. And for all his humility, Daddy C wastes no time taking control of everything and everyone in the room when he steps on stage. It’s just that natural thing – whatever “IT” is. Like the name he picked out for the CD when it’s finished – it’s “superhypeatomic.” For more info, contact Scott White at 972-329-7763 or 972-741-3330 or via email at scott@professord.com. |

Press Reviews
Tony Zazza, afternoon drive on Mix 102.9 FM in Dallas, TX, and formerly of MTV Online says:“ 'Superhypeatomic' has so much radio potential. Literally, just about every song could find its way to radio. It’s just a matter of time. This stuff is the funkiest, funkdafied funk – you better hold on to your backsides.”Howie Black, afternoons on Hot 100 FM in Dallas says:“This guy will be on the radio – I’m serious. ‘Sumphin’ Sumphin' Fo’Ya’ is a hit looking for a record label. And the first time I saw Daddy C live – my first question was, ‘Why isn’t this guy signed? With his voice and his talent?’ And the band, PD&P – they’re slammin’.” |
