    Artist description
Catalyst is a three piece band from El Cajon, California (El Cajon is located a few miles east of San Diego). We play a unique hybrid of punk, trash metal, and post-hardcore. Music is our catalyst. It keeps our minds in touch with our bodies. It keeps us alive.
    Music Style
Punk fused with thrash metal meets driving and melodic rock music
    Musical Influences
We are influenced by many old school rock, punk, and metal bands plus a few indie rock bands (call it "emo" if you will) plus a few newer bands...Slayer, Rush, Sodom, Sunny Day Real Estate, NOFX, Bad Brains, Agent Orange, Descendants, Sepultura, Nirvana, Sebadoh, Slint, Death, Dream Theater, Cynic, Dillenger Escape Plan...

    Artist History
There are only a few things that are worth keeping dear to the heart. When we first got together, we were (all three of us) fresh out of bands, with the bitter taste of punk rock still lingering in our mouths. I remember meeting Marlon way back when he was in a local El Cajon/Rancho San Diego 77’ style punk band called The Daft (which was the dumbest name I’ve ever heard). We were still in high school, and me and Andrew were playing together in a hardcore punk band called K.O.P. (Kids On Probation). I can recall the bad blood that circulated between the two bands. K.O.P. hated The Daft because we thought they were too slow, and The Daft hated us because they thought we had no style. Needless to say, immaturity and a passion for our own versions of what "punk" truly was fueled the rivalry. Years later, after high school, I found that musical energies didn’t need to be all about how much the government sucks or how "punk" we were, but how we expressed our music as a manifestation of our hearts and souls. Enter Requiem. After Marlon agreed to jam with us on a whim (after a shitload of delays), Andrew, Marlon, and I decided to form a band in early 1999. Our first gathering was amazing…the best jam session any ofus ever had. After that, we didn’t even hesitate for a moment to get serious about starting a band. The three-piece line-up still remains today. With our various influences we began the intensive process of songwriting. Soon we had enough songs for a set, and began to pursue gigs. We played parties for a handful of inebriated friends. They seemed to like it. Hell, drunks don’tlie! After finding out that there was already a band called Requiem (some doom metal band fromAnchorage) we changed it to Interfectum, which means murder in Latin. Soon we grew tired of people calling us "Innerspectum" or "In Your Rectum", so we changed it to something else. After much debate and brainstorming, we agreed upon calling ourselves "Catalyst". I don’t give a fuck if there already is another band with the name because coming up with it was too damn stressful anyways (thanks to Andrew’s sense of humor). Now that we have completed our demo, we can begin to make the most of things. Our influences?...well, we all are big fans of Iron Maiden. Andrew and I were first influenced by allthe classic punk bands and a few newer ones like NOFX. Marlon’s earliest influences were all the grunge bands from Seattle. Our recent influences are Death, Hot Water Music, Terrorizer, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mr. Bungle, Boilermaker, and No Knife to name a select few. Basically, we love music both melodic and brutal. In short Catalyst has become the focus of all our artistic energies. It seems to be one of the only things left in this world that I can truly admit that we keep close to our hearts.
