Artist description
Venus Diablo are not your typical categorical "alt. rock" band. They mesh devilish swing, be-bop jazz rhythms, and introspective film soundtrack rock into a hypnotic stew that will linger in your mind well after the CD is over. The fullness in the trio's sound places equal emphasis on guitar, bass and drums . Of note is Steve Mickelsen's sweeping baritone vocals which give power and prejudice to the songs while still maintaining gentler moments with every other breath. |

Artist History
Formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico on a winter's day in 1994, Venus originally was a four piece with saxophone player Jesse Graham's trademark permeations, and their previous self-titled album (1996) was good enough to be selected for use on MTV's Road Rules-Australia. But, now that they've tightened down to trio, the band's "Beautiful Curse" is dynamically varied in both loudness and tempo, and the new material is their strongest yet. Produced by Bob Ferbrache (ex-16 Horsepower, and producer of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and Foreskin 500), look for selections to be used in a future independent film. |
