Artist History
Living Space is a talented group of friends who hail from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. They write, perform, and record their own music. Their melodic sounds and rhythms create an eclectic brand of music with some rock & roll edge, catchy pop melodies, and the feeling of soul music. Their use of multiple vocalists add just the right amount of variety to their catchy tunes, which keeps their sound fresh and interesting. Bands who have inspired them include Blur, The Smiths, U2, Radiohead, Weezer, as well a locals musicians Bart Davenport, Cake, and Luster.
Living Space consists of Coop R. Fransis (vocals, guitar, songwriter), Trevor Contreras (guitar, vocals, songwriter), Jamie Quon (drums), and Kevin Costa (bassist, vocals, and songwriter). The band was formed in 1992 and took a couple of years to develop their songwriting and musicianship. Living Space released their first single "Wrapper" in 1995 and it was well received. That same year they began booking and playing live shows in local bars and clubs around the Bay Area. After a year and a half of playing shows, Living Space released their debut CD "Next 11 Exits" in 1997 under their own label, Dark Matters Productions.
Finding that love for what you enjoy makes it all worth the effort. That idea definitely holds true for Living Space. The band is currently in the final stages of their second CD entitled, "Fade into Existence". Living Space is entering a new period of development. They are very excited about their new material and enjoy the opportunity to share it with their fans. The recording will be released in July 2002. The new recording is aimed to push the true spirit of the band into uncharted territory.

Press Reviews
As with most bands with an eclectic group of influences their sound is hard to pin down. On some tracks you can hear the Morrissey influence in the vocals mixed with a Radiohead guitar riff (notably 19 Lines, Down in Denver, Happyface) other songs have a very Weezer meets Paul Simon pop/island groove (like U.S., Running to a Train). |
