Artist description
Chouchenn are based in Lancaster in the North West of England. We play traditional music from several European countries for concerts and dance festivals. Given our varied musical backgrounds, the music is a fusion of styles but is always strongly based on the traditional. Increasingly, members of Chouchenn are writing original material in traditional styles, drawing from and adding to the rich repertoire of European music. The music is strongly associated with the dance styles of each country and has a wide variety of rhythmic and melodic structures. It can range from a hauntingly beautiful melody for a slow waltz, to a fluid yet powerful rhythm for a polka or a bourrée. |

Artist History
Formed in 1997, Chouchenn have developed their own style of folk. Calling on a variety of styles to evoke their own powerful melodies. They have played at a number of popular European folk festivals such as Le Grand Bal D'Europe at Gennetines, France, and at Andancas, Portugal. Chouchenn continue to work on their own music, and after the success of their last album "One For You" which came out in 1999, hope to produce another in Spring 2000. |
