Splendorlex, WOW!! liked this one a lot enough to check out more on your page. I was not expecting much with a title like "beer". I was impressed all around by the time it finished. As a suggestion I would personally change the title to something different. (Although I'm sure the title garners interest here at mp3.com!) I also was not really impressed with the band name. Aside from those negative things this band definitly is WORTH CHECKING OUT! This actually is highly influenced by the Pixies. One of my personal favorites so this may be slightly biased. "Beer" has a nice acoustic start to it, kind of a spanish guitar chord progression with an Alice in Chains feel to it. The use of the high vocal harmonies was different and fit the style of music. Your chorus kicks ass! It kept me interested in listening. I was boping my head around. I wanted to read along with some lyrics however there were none. I do not have a good idea about the content of the song because of this. Your bridge out the chorus was brilliant and the transition out of that into your verse was smooth for such a dynamic change. This has potential for college radio EASILY! I most liked the fact that the song was schitzofrenic from beginning to the end keeping it interesting.(As is the last one on your webpage)- Charles Thompson- Very "Pixies" meet the "Toadies" I think I almost like "Charles Thompson" better than "Beer". The title again could use some help though. Here's my rating of your band:9/10 for origionality, you don't hear stuff like this in music toady and the world needs more of the "Splendorlex" sound.~AphidSplendorlexI've read other positive reviews of Splendorlex, so I begin with much anticipation.BeerUsually when a band describes themselves as sounding like another band, they're completely off base, and what they really meant was: "I listen to XXX and I wish we sounded like them". Splendorlex compares themselves to the Pixies. They're right on. But where's Kim?I hear some excellent production on this song. The song is oozing with creativity and energy. Jumping from one section to another with amazing agility, Splendorlex takes us on a three and a half minute joy ride that any college-indie-rocker would eat up!The vocals are the first thing that caught my attention, because there's so darn many of them, and they're so.... in tune! The background vocals are essential. They layer this tune up into the masterpiece it is. I must complement the use of falsetto! Next is the guitar sounds. Clean cleans. Distorted distortions. Effected effects. Everything stands right out in perfect stereophonic harmony. My only complaint about this song is the hyperactive snare fills. I would have used a laid back fill with double-kick acrobatics. ****1/2 (of 5)I QuitThis track is...refreshing. There's so much going on with such a simple sound. The clean guitars still have that heavy rockin' sound, a la Dead Milkmen. The effect on the "I Quit" voice in the chorus is really cool. I totally expected someone to start screaming there, and then this little antiseptic digital voice comes in and says "I quit". Way to throw a curve!I can't say I'm a fan of the laughing part of this track. It got to the point where I just said "Oh my God these guys are insane" and started laughing along with the song. But in the end, I could have done without it.Great track.*** (of 5)Also downloaded Tech Girl. If it kicks my ass, I'll let you know. You guys should come and play in Ames, Iowa.Check these guys out!
