Artist History
Spellbound 2001 Biography Los Angeles, California - SPELLBOUND was formed by two songwriters / producers sharing a common love of Funk, Latin, Psychedelic, & Electronic music.Paul Thomas & Bobby Moon were early purveyors of electronic dance music in L.A., recording & performing with various line-ups since their formative years. SPELLBOUND began producing superior CDs for their Selfish Recordings label, beginning with Spellbound in 1996 (which contains the Latin-tinged favorite "Good Company", still a hot internet single recently hitting #3 on the MP3.com Latin Pop chart)!1999 marked the release of their first nationally distributed disc, Funqueros, for this multi-cultural "funk n' Latin groove" band. The critics were unanimous in their praise of the disc, since Campus Circle first hailed it as "a jewel of magnanimous proportions." Funqueros also featured the debut of SPELLBOUND's newest members, Peruvian vocalist Charo Salinas, & gospel/soul vocalist Sonora. The CD has received radio airplay on Latin & Tropical stations from all over the globe, & helped push Spellbound to a new level. In January 2000 two songs were released in the MP3 format, in conjunction with "The Official Spellbound Website"(www.spellboundband.com). "El Tropico" and "Ay Que Rico Es" were top 10 staples of the MP3.com Tropical chart (both reaching the #1 spot) for the remainder of the year. Almost 2 years after Funqueros, Spellbound's Respete El Pasado / Respect The Past is finally here. The new CD, an original tribute to their musical influences of the past, is Spellbound's finest recording to date. It features some of the best musicians on the West coast, including salsero Johnny Polanco, saxaphone legend Plas Johnson (The Pink Panther), David LaFlamme (of San Francisco '60s band Its A Beautiful Day), with a special appearance by Question Mark (of "96 Tears" fame). A song from the disc "Voy A Cantar" was released in advance on MP3.Com, & it reached the Top Ten within a day.The future looks bright, and if you get to catch SPELLBOUND live, it's always an exhilarating dance experience. They've gained respect in the L.A. club scene, performing at such top-notch venues as The Atlas, Luna Park & Mamagaya. An incredibly entertaining & effective live act, they always deliver the goods by getting their crowd dancing, groovin' & partying hard! |
