Artist History
In late 1995 "The Frank Band", consisting of Joachim Mesterton Dahlberg, Emil Couch and 3 other members, had a difference in opinion which caused them to split up. Emil & Joachim wanted to try something new and along with them came their former bassplayer. Since Joachim handled the vocals and the rythm-guitar and Emil the lead-guitar, all they needed was a drummer. Through a mutual friend they met Marcus Christiansson at a Fireside/Entomed/Refused concert in their hometown Stockholm. Marcus had previously played with the hardcore band "Porridge". After 5 months of rehearsing under the name "Gramophone" they realized that the seriousity of Marcus, Joachim and Emil was not shared by the bassplayer, so they started looking for one who did. Joachim recalled his high-school friend Magnus Åsard and called him to ask him to play with them at their first ever club-gig. Things worked out great and they asked him to join the band. He accepted their offer and that has been the line-up ever since. They soon discovered that the name "Gramophone" was occupied by an acoustic folk-rock band from the US, so the search for a new bandname began. After sticking with "Interiors" for a short while they settled on what used to be a songtitle of theirs, "Malfeither", a name Marcus came up with being inspired by the 80's B-horror movie "Witchboard". They ended 1996 with the recording of their first demo, "Sad". During the next couple of years the band experienced a few setbacks, such as bandmembers travelling half across our planet and military service. Despite all that they always managed to get back on tracks focusing on their music. They've gotten their live-act together by playing clubs all over Stockholm, for example "Studion" to name one. In the fall of 1998 another demo was recorded. This time selftitled but to tell them apart they refered to it as "the blue demo". Continously playing clubs they strived to make a name for themselves. In the songwriting process they felt they broke new ground and once again entered a studio. The outcome of that late 1999 session is Malfeither's new and improved hard, yet emotional, sound in the shape of "the red demo", also selftitled. Malfeither has set a goal for themselves, but it will not stop at that. They are now ready to challenge the future. |
