    Artist History
Named after the band members fetish for wearing shiny sharkskin shirts,SHARKSKIN is an instrumental bass/drums/guitar based combo formed in 1984 by COYOTE SHIVERS (along with CINDY BEATTIE, ELVIS D. TRIPP, and CAMERON CHAPMAN) as an outlet for his more "experimental" side. A big fan of bands like KISS and the RAMONES, Coyote was busy playing in punk edged rock and roll bands, (and eventually started a successful solo career with his glam/powerpop sound), but was equally influenced by experimental bands like TELEVISION, and by growing up working in DANIEL LANOIS' recording studio watching Daniel and the likes of BRIAN ENO record. Coyote also produced the first two SHADOWY MEN ON A SHADOWY PLANET albums, including the song which was later picked up as the theme song to the hit TV show "THE KIDS IN THE HALL". SHARKSKIN represents this eclectic blend of influences perfectly. Like TELEVISION without vocals, SHARKSKIN's instrumental "ambient surf-rock" was first released in 1986 on the EP "THIS AIN'T NO DREAM", then in 1989 on the EP "TOO COOL FOR WORDS", followed by "THE LEGENDARY" in 1993. Several limited edition singles have followed, as well as a handful of collaborations with various singers working with SHARKSKIN as the backing band. The latest SHARKSKIN release "GREATEST HITS 1984-2001" contains ten tracks spanning their career. Most of SHARKSKIN's material throughout the years was recorded by MARK HOWARD, who went on to produce artists such as REM, IGGY POP, and THE TRAGICALLY HIP.
