Artist description
Local Anxiety -- alias Mark Leiren-Young and Kevin Crofton -- have been one of Canada's top comedy troupes since forming in 1992. They've been featured at most major comedy festivals across Canada and have had over two dozen commissions from CBC radio. They've received two awards for their work with National Public Radio in the U.S and have also been heard in the US on Dr. Demento. Recent TV appearances include CBC TV's SketchCom, The Jim Byrnes Show and their TV special, Greenpieces. Billed as "the world's first environmentally friendly satire" Greenpieces received a 1999 EarthVision Award for excellence in environmental film-making. Featuring a mix of songs, sketches and comic documentary, Greenpieces was shot live on location at the Vancouver Folk Festival and features cameo appearaces by Dr. David Suzuki and radio relationship expert, Rhona Raskin. Mark also co-emceed the Folk Festival and Local Anxiety took the mainstage to perform such faves as "I'm White, I'm Straight, I'm Sorry." In their secret identities Mark Leiren-Young is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and journalist and Kevin Crofton is a folk singer, actor and social worker. |
