Artist History
Chris, Jane and Chris had gone together to see bands while in school in Berkeley, California and thought, "Hey, that would be really fun!" And they all shared a fondness for the same music (Pixies, Go-Gos, Weezer, Imperial Teen). But it wasn't until early 1997, when soon-to-be drummer Chris Wetherell made some hasty financial decisions (read: throwing borrowed money at instruments none of them knew how to play) that the three of them bucked up, did some quick instrument tutorials, and began to play as Dealership. Dealership's songs have been described as noisy but sweet teenage anthems, complete with catchyboy-girl harmonies, crunchy guitars and caffeinated beats. Their sound is characterizedby the confident simplicity of their instrumentation, allowing the melodies of the songs to take center stage. Going from spastic highs to lullaby lows, lead vocalist and bassist Chris Groves hooks the listener into stories of popularity contests, faded crushes and nuclear war. Miyuki Jane Pinckard's dirty guitarswirls under her backup vocals as she whispers, screams, and occasionally sings along. Providing a sturdy foundation for all this, drummer Chris Wetherell lays down a garage-influenced beat that keeps the band jumping and listeners smiling while he pounds away. Dealership's debut album, Secret American Livingroom, is a collection of 8 catchy songs that have gained them a prominent spot in the Bay Area music scene (including an 8-week stint onKALX-Berkeley's Top 35). They are currently in the midst of recording another album, tentativelytitled TV Highway to the Stars. |
