    Artist History
Starting in 1993/94, the clergyman have been performing live for small audiences in the Toronto area off and on again as their schedule with S.O.L. permits. Up-front and unpolished, the clergyman rarely submit to production on folk tracks, with one member stating that "I get enough of that with SOL, I just want to make some music, good tunes that are fun to play and maybe someone would like to hear. And I want to be able to perform them as they are, and it is really draining trying to live up to produced sound." Truly, what you hear is what you get, and while continually trying to shy away from political themes, the clergyman can occasionally dip into 60's protest-feel songs with modern social themes, but the emphasis, as ever, is always on the human. Experiemental efforts include electronic offerings more inline with traditional S.O.L. projects, but with less emphasis on marketability or club-saavy. As of 2000, the clergyman project and S.O.L. have been dealing with the loss of key songwriter and instrumentalist, J. GRABELL. For the record, J. GRABELL stated that "I've not gone anywhere but farther away". As of January 2002, The Clergyman shall witness the return of J GRABELL and the addition of the new instrumentalist, C MACDOUGALL. The return of The Clergyman as a full-time act is definitely on the plate, say inside sources, and the fruits of the band should be explosive indeed. Said C MACDOUGALL, "yeah; explosive fruit-- who doesn't want that? Great press release".

    Press Reviews
This is Folk? Sounds more like ill faded[sic] guns and roses moe[sic] than folk. This is the Halo member you antagonized on the message board. At first,I was sad. Then after hearing your "music", I became happy. The initial thought[ed. note- only one thought] in my head was-"I was playing this goofy stuffat[sic] 13"[.] Then I realised[sic - for an American] that Canadians do not hold themselves to as high a musicalstandard[sic] as us. Take some lessons before talking smack bro[sic]. For real-tale[sic take?] this like it was from a friend-LEARN TO SOLO IN KEY. [R]eal important. [A]nyhow-I will cease toelaborate[sic] on anymore of this garbage. PEACE- Canadian Hating Texan. And one thing for sure, [the clergyman] can play. I listened all the way through very interested. - Julian, Dublin Ireland.
