    Artist History
In the fall of 1998, vocalist Ned Clark, drummer Chad Hough, keyboardist Drew Parkinson, guitarists Matt Cloutier and Erich Brunk, and bassist Jeremy Bone began hammering out hook-laden tunes in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They soon hit the road as Runaway Cab. The band has since played over 300 shows from West Palm Beach to New York City with such acts as Cravin' Melon, Far Too Jones, Angie Aparo and King's X. A particular highlight in the band's short career was sharing the main stage with Five For Fighting, Vertical Horizon and Barenaked ladies at the G105 "Big Shindig" in August of 2001. Runaway Cab has released one LP, "On the Upside", and one EP, "Fall", both produced by local heavyweight John Plymale. The band has recently returned to the studio to begin work on the "Time" EP with Mike Gardner.

Cab Opens Melon's Last Raleigh Show - Wednesday, February 21, 2001 Chapel Hill-based favorites Runaway Cab will perform with regional rock heroes Cravin' Melon on Saturday, March 3rd at the new Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC. The performance marks not only Cravin' Melon's final performance at the Lincoln Theatre, but also the birth of another rock sensation to-be. From the world of up-and-coming musical acts that call the Triangle home, meet Runaway Cab. They're a highly acclaimed six-piece pop-rock band with a radio-friendly sound and a hit album, which has sent them touring all over the Southeast and back. Runaway Cab has spent the past year touring extensively throughout the Southeast to promote their current release On The Upside, surfacing in local hotspots such as the Cat's Cradle, Ziggy's, The House Of Blues, Five Point's Pub, The Lincoln Theatre, The Blind Tiger and the Brewery among others. Recently, the band has been performing with the likes of Cravin' Melon and Far Too Jones, as well as being featured by Larry Pickett on NBC17 and headlining 96Rock's Mardi Gras Festival and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's 2001 Dance Marathon. The members of Runaway Cab joined forces in the summer of 1998 with one simple goal in mind - "To go all the way to the top," recalls lead guitarist Matt Cloutier. Just two years later, this team of talented rock visionaries has already produced a hit album, gained heavy radio play, performed with the likes of Cravin' Melon, King's X, Far Too Jones, Angie Aparo, Gran Torino, and Peter Searcy, and have even landed a spot on a national compilation of the best unsigned bands in America. And as word of Runaway Cab matriculates through the region, the audiences continue to grow. "It's the best feeling when you can look into the crowd and see the people singing your lyrics, word for word - even to our newer stuff that is not on the album" says bassist Jeremy Bone. "After all we've been through, that's probably the most rewarding aspect of all of this; to see people out there having as much fun as we are." For Runaway Cab, it has been an uphill trek from the beginning. From having their equipment stolen eighteen months ago to purchasing a van with no air-conditioning early last summer, the members of this diverse sextet have exhibited the kind of patience and perseverance that can take a band to the top. Not to mention talent. The band most recently collaborated with Cravin' Melon last month at a sold out performance at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, one stop on Cravin' Melon's farewell tour. "It was great," recalls Runaway Cab keyboardist Drew Parkinson. "The crowd showed up early and made lots of noise. Everyone had a blast, so we're definitely looking forward to our upcoming shows in the Triangle." Runaway Cab will also perform with Cravin' Melon in Virginia on March 2nd. "We're not trying to re-invent the wheel," said Bone. "We're just focused on putting out great music that people love."
