Artist description
Have you been missing that fat Seventies sound? Hanging out in that blue plastic bean bag chair in your room, the stereo turned up to eleven, the bass fuzzing out while you pored over the lyrics on the album sleeve of your newest record, sipping an ice-cold Coke from the original green glass bottle? Those days aren’t dead—but you’re going to have to attend a funeral to find them. There’s no need to dress in black, though—this is The Funeral of Mr. Disappointment, the debut of Louisville-based artist Moon. |

Artist History
An Atlanta, Georgia native, Moon was a product of the Seventies and the South: raised on a mixture of gospel, classic rock and deep-fried blues, he later discovered jazz, classical and alternative music. After moving to Louisville, Kentucky he enjoyed his first commercial success with the original modern pop/funk band Fish Tales. The band toured extensively in the Midwest, released two albums, and Moon won national awards as a performer and songwriter. In 1997, Moon began composing songs for a solo release. In 1998, he went into the studio and laid down the tracks that would become The Funeral of Mr. Disappointment. This eight-song collection is a musical trip through the big pop sounds of groups like the Beatles, Queen and Steely Dan and solo artists such as Billy Joel and Billy Preston. Hints of his modern rock leanings surface here as well, with nods to such current chart toppers as Ben Folds Five and Sting. Drawing from a wealth of talented musicians and friends, Moon was able to weave a full orchestral tapestry not often heard in independent releases. |

Press Reviews
“The songs in The Funeral of Mr. Disappointment are full of more hooks than a tackle box. Moon doesn’t fixate on romances (soured or otherwise) or coerce his rhymes, instead these are sublimely positive songs of change, faith – in the self and in others – and the unburdening of the spirit…its angelic vocal harmonies could dissolve coal to make diamonds, and tears will well up in your eyes when you hear them. As a writer and performer, Moon has produced an impressive, cohesive work of talent and promise. His songs in The Funeral of Mr. Disappointment defy cynicism. They instead point toward an undeniable hope”. (Tim Roberts, Louisville Music News, December 1999) "This small-label mini-album displays an outrageous potential. It's a 30-minute song cycle cannily arranged (think Joe Jackson), but spiked with a theatrical humor reminiscent of the warmer sides of Randy Newman. The keynote is a cover of "Crosstown Traffic," and it serves the purpose of showing off the singer/songwriter's comfort with swinging a large ensemble around, then stopping it on a dime...Somebody major is bound to scoop him up for the horn arrangements alone! (T.E. Lyons, LEO, February 2,2000) |
