Artist History Funks G is a Digital Punk Rock band originally from Winterset, Iowa. Now currently based out of Iowa City, Iowa, the band is preparing for the upcoming release of "The Funks G Experience," the band's second EP. Since Originating in late 1999, the band's accomplishments include: Winning KZZQ's first annual battle of the bands in 2000, which enabled the band to record their first 4 song EP, the "Good vs. Evil EP," which sold over 300 copies and spawned two radio singles, "Weakling," and "Cool Like You." "Weakling," was in regular rotation at KZZQ, on their 9-midnight show, and "Cool Like You" received weekly radio play on KAZR's local radio show, "Lazer Local Licks." To support the "Good vs. Evil EP," which was released in November of 2000, the band played shows in Des Moines and surrounding communities at venues including: Hairy Mary's, Franks House of Rock, the Botanical Center, and House of Bricks. To test the music on a wider audience, the band went on a self promoted weeklong tour in the summer of 2001, where they played shows in Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, and two shows in Kansas. Following the conclusion of the tour, the band recorded their latest release "The Funks G Experience." The cause for delay in its release was the inevitable but temporary parting of the band members due to the fact that two decided to go to college in eastern Iowa. In the band's time apart, they had songs included on two compilation cds. "I'll Be There for You," from the upcoming EP, "The Funks G Experience," was included on the (515) Punk Rock Compilation CD out on Ape Man Records, and "Summer of 2000," also on the new EP, landed a spot on the just released JEL compilation CD, “Amplified,” which had an initial pressing of 25,000 copies, that are to be distributed exclusively to youth in the Midwest. Funks G is currently playing shows to support their latest CD, and are ready and willing to play their unique blend of high energy music anywhere and at anytime.
