Artist History
Roots rock, pop, - You'll find ingredients of all of these genres of music in this band from Austin. However, you can safely sum up Blind Luck in three words - rock and roll. In their recordings, and especially live, they hold nothing back. The energy they supply leaves the audience charged with a static electricity that has already got college students buzzing. Walking into a Blind Luck show is like bumping into someone who has been shuffling their feet across the carpet in the wintertime - you will immediately be aware of the energy they are emitting. Beside the fact that they love what they are doing, their youth makes this energy all the more possible. This group of twenty-somethings is lead by Carter Pagel, the 26-year-old songwriter. Pagel, who made the coffee-shop rounds with his guitar honing his craft of story telling with humorous, sharp lyrics, was joined by a two-year-old rhythm section in February of 1998. Twenty-seven-year-old drummer Jason Stolly and 28-year-old bassist Roland Perez, who played together in The Ringers, mesh their instruments as one unit giving the songs an almost tangible life and tightness that might not be expected of such a new band. Twenty-nine-year-old Joseph Deeb adds his flawless guitar to the songs like the last pieces of a puzzle being laid in place. The picture that appears in the end is a real life experience - one that must be experienced to truly understand. |

Press Reviews
"If Steve Earle were consistantly funnier... cleaver original material and penchant for fast twangy tempos...a superior independent release... Pagel has crafted twelve top-notch tunes which combine barroom perspective with country rock punkishness...Ante Up is really my type of country music. I think you'll dig it too." Ken Burke - Twangzine: December 1999 "...Blurring the genre lines? You betcha!..." austinlive.com: October 10, 1999 "...it's rock and roll with a twang...fast-rising, energetic...contemporaries include Slobberbone and the Hollisters...for the youthfully macho audiences Blind Luck draws...other band members add solid instrumentals..." Tom Geddie - BUDDY, The Original Texas Music Magazine: October 1999 "...they cross the lines of country and rock and roll smoothly and with grace...lyrics are witty, straight forward, and accomanied by a honky tonk sound...if you enjoy the roots rock, y'allternative, whatever you want to call it, then "Ante Up" is a must for your collection." J Davis - Fappy.com Music Magazine: September 6, 1999 "Polish your boots! These boys will set those feet to dancing. They came in near the top of the list as best new band in the Austin Chronicle and are ripping up clubs with their hot country rock sound...solid country sound and great vocals ..." Music Austin: July 29, 1999 "...this is certainly a group to keep an eye on. Their debute tastes very good indeed." ROOTSTOWN Music Magazine: July 1999 "…members of Blind Luck seem much too down-to-earth to bother with terms like alt.country…CD free of artifice…lead singer has matinee idol good looks of Ricky Nelson and Chris Isaak…unpretentious roots-rock…Pagel learned his lessons in songwriting well…engaging in sight and sound…contemporaries of Reckless Kelly, Dale Watson and Charlie Robison…" Margaret Moser - The Austin Chronicle: March 5, 1999 |
