Artist History
The Tijuana Bibles formed in 1997 to write instrumental soundtrack music for deranged Super8 filmmaker Stacey Case's series of Mexican masked wrestling films, starring Arriba! The Parkdale Wrestler. Initially a studio project, it didn't take long for the Bibles to realize they had something special going on, namely five (sometimes six) members with an outstanding garage rock pedigree and a patented evil surf sound. Donning Mexican-style wrestling masks out of respect to the films that led to their formation, the Bibles stepped out of the studio and onto the stage in the summer of 1999. Highlights of their career thus far include a sold-out 7" ep that charted across Canada; frenzied gigs opening for the likes of Deadbolt, the BellRays, and El Vez; winning the Cavestomp! 2000 Online Battle Of The Bands (with over 20,000 votes!!), resulting in an opening slot for the legendary Troggs in New York City; and finally, a staggeringly successful 12 day, 13 date tour of Belgium and Holland in Nov/Dec 2000. |
