Artist History
At their 10-year high school reunion in 1996, Justin Sheehy ran into his old friend, Mike Leach. As children, Justin and Mike realized that their closest bond was music. Now, they were sharing ideas on Justin's solo career and the possibility of Mike engineering and playing drums on a demo project Justin had been recording. They agreed the demo Justin had prepared needed to be polished and immediately called their mutualfriend Mark Williams to add his unique guitar style to the record. After only a few rehearsals, becoming a band seemedthe natural thing to do and Jonasay was formed. As the band started to develop and play some gigs in the Washington, D.C. area, Justin asked a fellowmember of the D.C. acoustic circuit, Dave Moore, to add his vocal presence and rhythm guitar to the quality of their sound. And out of that same circuit came Michael Alban, who put down his guitar and became the bass player in the winter of 1999.In just a short period of time, Jonasay has developed a loyal following and, at the same time, impressed some of the industry's most respected players. Jonasay has shared the stage with Vertical Horizon, Brownie Mary, moe, The Honeydogs, The Gathering Field and Kevin Johnson and the Linemen. Their music offers the listener an honest and lasting sound that has been lost in the rush of today's "flavor of the month" artists. |

Press Reviews
- The Washington Post - Weekend Pick - June '99- "More consistently appealing is the self-titled five-song CD recently released by the local folk-rock quartet Jonasay. Beginning with first cut, "Gone Away," it's clear that singer-songwriter Justin Sheehy definitely has a way with words--and wordplay. From there, the quartet moves through an all too brief series of songs that often boast interesting lyrics, inviting choruses, and Mark Williams's imaginative guitar work." --- Mike Joyce - The Washington Post |
