Artist History
A band from Montreal, Howling Syn first started as a solo project by Patryk Pigeon (lyrics, music, vocals, bass) in 1998. It's during the preceding years, with various metal bands that were leading nowhere, that he found some interest for gothic and medieval music. Mixed with his own style, influences and orchestrations, it seemed like the perfect blend.
In fall 1999, Sophie LeMay (lyrics, vocals, flute) took an interest in the project. Having won a few prizes in poetry, she joined Patryk to write some lyrics, enhanced with her angelic voice that turned out to be a major asset to the whole music.
A few months went by when a long-time partner, drummer and songwriter Eric Mireault, joined the band, solidifying the bonds between them. It's in January 2000 that the members of Howling Syn decided to release their music on MP3.com. Since then, they have earned more than US$10,000 on this website without any outside promotion and while remaining an independent band. The trio, pushing back the limits of their talent, even climbed up to number one in the Quebec and general metal charts. The band, that French magazine Metallian refers to as the new hope in Power Metal for Canada, has released 5 demo CDs plus a promo EP and sold a considerable number of them throughout the world in the last year.
This music that was, at the time, only a vision in the head of its founding member and main composer, enriched and matured by the life experiences of Patryk, Sophie and Eric, now covets the form that is rightfully theirs, the titanic form of an international band. Joining them for live shows and future projects, guitarist Gilbert Riendeau is now part of the pack.
Finishing their first studio album (Forebearers of Dusk) that includes 13 songs, divided into two concepts-parts except for the last one that brings them back to a single concept and on which Decayed Remains' frontman lent his voice, the band takes on the dark and powerful side that makes the difference between their demo albums and the upcoming one. Moreover, shows with a theatrical twist are to come. Howling Syn now has at hand all the instruments needed to raise, for all to see and hear, a monument worthy of their ambition.

Press Reviews
**BW&BK (CANADA)** This highly creative Montreal
three-piece (with female vocals) mixes gothic
metal and gothic new wave with the thorniest of
progressive riffs. Multi-part and multi-hued,
the band has released five demos and has had a
lucrative run of it on mp3.com. Come hear the
band that France's Metallian has called "the new
hope in power metal for Canada."**
