Press Reviews
From Grinding Into Emptiness: Entropy City, which is offered through MP3.com as a DAM CD, is a brilliant debut by the trio Static Engine. It's hard to shove Static Engine in to a particular genre, because their style shifts throughout the album, and even throughout a single song. They fall somewhere in between EBM and synthpop, following most similarly along with bands like Mesh. The first track, "A Stainless Steel Sky," morphs from melodic synthpop to harsh, aggressive EBM in a split second. Though it may seem like quite a change of pace for the middle of a song, the song flows well from one style to another. "Encrypt/Decrypt," which has been released as a single, begins with quiet, vocoded vocals, but explodes into a poppy chorus. You can tell that Static Engine is a fan of samples, as they appear throughout "Entropy City," enhancing the mood of a song. In Entropy City, Static Engine puts an aggressive spin on synthpop. You can take a listen to their music at www.mp3.com/staticengine or visit their website www.staticengine.com. Their DAM CD is available for a low price, and is more than worth it. Check them out! |
