    Artist description
Win P. Picco, a distinguished Jazz musician and collector of American antiques – doesn't know the time or date but all the Colt and Winchester firearms – got together with folk-expert and multi talented musician Wolfgang Poetter, to practice a few pieces by Charlie Pool.A week later Ernie Jaskolski joined the two with his guitar and his mandolin. He had played the guitar for several rock bands and refined his Mandolin skills by playing these pieces with Picco and Poetter.Soon they started including other classic jazz and folk songs out that timeperiod in their repertoire. Even in the early concerts the "Blackpowder Orchestra" had turnout of 8 to 10 listeners (mostly related and not by choice!!).Years later, the band came across Jurek Sobis and his bass. In Poland, he had played in several orchestras and with his well trained bass sound he added another level of quality to the overall sound of the band. The name of the band was now changed to "Louisiana". The repertoire consisted primarily of pieces from the southern states. A few compositions, based on that "old sound", were added. Stories that were told by Piccos antique collectibles made their way onto staff paper. The initial recordings proved that there was a missing link in the sound of "Louisiana". Peter Porten and his violoncello, who spontaneously joined the band as an addition to his performances with an orchestra in Duesseldorf, closed this gap. Many things have changed since 1987. For example the number of listeners at concerts has skyrocketed to approximately 10 to 15 people. For "Louisiana's" concerts the old motto persists: Any Nation welcome except Carry.
