Artist History
Jon Gilbert Leavitt is a songwriter and pianist/piano performer who has played in venues ranging from pop/rock, cabaret, country, blues, new age and salsa. Currently, Jon writes for recording artists and contributes his piano skills in the studio. His songwriting falls primarily in the pop/rock genre, but also has written Gospel and German-language songs. ______________ He has worked on music featured in the film "My Dinner With Abbie," (1991), featured at the Berlin and L.A. Film Festivals, and aired on PBS television. His independent single "Pride" celebrating 20th Century gay history, which was also re-mixed into 2 dance singles, has received worldwide airplay, print mentions and garnered radio interviews. It was named #1 Song of the Year 2000 on the Outvoice Top-40 Tracks Chart. Jon has appeared on The Joey Reynolds Show (the #1 syndicated radio talk show in its time slot on over 100 AM stations nationwide), as well as featured in segments on This Way Out (GLBT radio newsmagazine syndicated in over 100 radio and cable stations worldwide). ____________Jon is a full writer member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), from which he received the ASCAPlu$ Award for four consecutive years (2000-2004). He is an active member of Outmusic, in which he won 'Outstanding Songwriter' and was nominated for 'Outmusician Of The Year' in the 1st Annual Outmusic (OMA) Awards, 2001. He also was awarded the Stonewall Society Pride Award in 2002. Currently Jon's songs are heard by other recording artists on their albums and in their performing repertoire. |
