Artist description
Guy Schwartz is a songwriting Texas musician whose musical career has run the gamut from fronting rock & pop bands, on guitar or bass and vocals, to working as a sideman bass player for blues, jazz and country legends. His recording career dates back to 1974. He is currently working with his longtime sidekick and songwriting partner, Roger Tausz (as a team they are known as The New Jack Hippies), writing for, and producing CDs for many of the individual musicians in their huge collective band, known as Guy Schwartz & The New Jack Hippies, who perform with any 6 - 25 (of the 40 or so) members who may show up to play on any given night. When not doing concert work, or opening act slots with fixed times, the band often performs all night long without a break, reconfiguring itself over and over again, into many different types of musical units shaped to serve certain songs the best. It's an original rock band, an old-time R & B revue, and a Texas Icehouse jam all rolled up into one very different band |

Press Reviews
"Pulling from the great genre pool, The New Jack Hippies are a unique spin on bluesy, jam-style
rock. Eclectic from the very sense of the word, the large conglomeration of musicians is remarkably
creative and cohesive." -PJ Cooper, Houston Headline
"....we have a very eclectic evening of music, and that eclecticism is personified by (The New Jack
Hippies). These two guys, the main core of this band up here, are two of my oldest, and dearest
friends from Houston, Texas. We grew up playing music togther, and the thing about Texas thats
great is that you get to play country, you get to play rock & roll, you get to play the blues, and you
get to do just about anything you want. These guys play all kinds of music, and theyve morphed
into one of Texas most popular blues rock hippie jam bands!" - Billy Block (Western Beat/CMT -
Nashville)
"Schwartz has been an uncontested guitar weilding presence on the Houston scene for
decades...Given the mountain of songs hes written over the years... this Best Songwriter
nomination is a belated payment for a long overdue I.O.U." -Houston Press
"Calling this outfit a jam band may be accurate, but its not complete. The multi-faceted Hippies take
their cues from the compact disceplined stylings of bands like The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Little
feat and War, in addition to the likes of Phish and The Dead. If anything, call The New Jack Hippies
a well-rehearsed jam band! And, as good as this band sounds on disc, its usually more effective in
a live setting - preferably under the sun with a cold beer in hand." - Bob Ruggiero, New Times
