Artist description
conceived as a foray into an aesthetic of broken machines, 'sync, synthetic' was formed by claus muzak shortly after co-producing the 1996 'bath' release, 'fools'. accentuating the deficiencies of electronic devices, 'sync, synthetic' explores the emptiness in between successive samples, the artifacts introduced by low fidelity digitization. 'sync, synthetic' has its roots in the lush industrial psychedelia of 'bath', but has wandered into a more repetitive realm. instead of relying on a typical sequencer-controlled setup, the 'sync, synthetic' sound is an assemblage of detritus, pieced together in an effort to foster coherence where it wouldn't ordinarily exist.
with degrees in both philosophy and computer science, claus muzak is able to create his own hardware and software and to subsequently pontificate on its musical significance. |
