Artist History
Four longtime friends gathered on a Saturday in June of 1997 intending only to play music for an afternoon; to burn off steam, release some pent-up creative energy, and share a common interest in great rock and roll. What happened, however, was magical. The music was so inspired, the energy they created so infectious that a new band was born: Stones Throw.Mike (drums) and Duane (vocals) had played together in a band for five years and were already familiar with the writing style of each other. The magic happened when their friends Mark (bass) and Kyle (guitar) entered the room. Creative juices became a creative river as songs flowed out of their collective body. By August of 1997, Stones Throw had their first headlining gig at Club Kaos, in Fremont.Stones Throw writes infectious rock and roll tunes that get their fans singing along during the show and humming all the way home. The result is songs with intelligent (if not sometimes witty or bitter) lyrics, super guitar hooks, and melodies to die for. The music of Stones Throw has a timeless quality that reflects the influences of The Who of the ‘70’s, REM of the ‘80’s, and Matchbox20 of the ‘90’s.Since their first gig, frequent haunts of Stones Throw have been San Francisco (Mick’s Lounge, Paradise Lounge, Hotel Utah), Monterey (Whitey’s Place, Doc Rickett’s), Berkeley (Blake’s), amongst many, many other venues.Stones Throw gigs are always fast-paced and entertaining with much butt-shaking going on (the band as well as the fans.) Stones Throw has shared the stage with such local luminaries as Smitty, Red Planet, Kirby Grips, Telling Downs, and Sunfur. |
