Artist History
Formed back in 1991, started out playin a wild mix of pop reggae swing and avant garde jazz. the coconuts gathered critical acclaim throughout the tri-state area but never the big record deal. undaunted they pushed along. gathering scores of fans along the way. signed to indie label/web site the Flytrap in 1995 released 1st full legnth Cd "Havin a Goodtime". 1998 Saw the Coconuts record and release a full blown Ska record. focusing their songwriting talents onto one genre for the first time. The record was picked up by Moon records affiliate Ska-Satellite. Distributed Nationwide and all over the Internet. Reviews poured in claiming it to be nothing short of one of the best ska records EVER. quite a feet for this relative unknown band in the Ska community. Currently (2003) the Coconuts having shed their Ska Skin 4 years ago in favor a more diverse array of music, pop, ska, avant garde calypso cha cha cha's, and swingin 30's can be heard coming from their basement lab, where they tinker on the next coconut album...stay tuned |
