    Artist description
Music that Jimi Hendrix, Michael Hutchence and Kurt Cobain would want you to listen to. Well, maybe not Kurt. When the media, the music industry, or music fans ask an artist what their music sounds like, the artist quickly draws comparisons to their music and a combination of two or three other known artists who are currently popular or have been in the past. Olio is different than most artists in a number of ways. First, there are no obvious comparisons in their own creative musical R&B Rock style. Second, there is a defining value to their music that supersedes other artist's desire to merely provide entertainment through their songs. In their new CD, Colour Of Music, Olio introduces you to their philosophy of expressing their ideas and questions about the everyday elements of life we seem readily open to accept. Hailing from Los Angeles California, the cross-genre band Olio blend r&b and rock into an original, inspiring, dynamic blend. Listing Prince, The Police, Sade, and Meshell Ndegeocello as their influences, it is obvious that their tastes are intelligent. Listening to Olio not only supports this impression, but it also compliments such great artists as the aforementioned.

    Artist History
Years ago, they play hooky from school to get better on their instruments, paint houses, work security for concerts, telemarket, landscape, Wherehouse Music, Capitol Records and play "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Brick House", too many times to count, at the Sports Page Bar and Grill and Bananaz all to make ends meet. Hailing from Los Angeles California, Olio consists of Arif on vocals and guitar and DeHaven on drums and vocals. Listing Prince, The Police, Sade, and Meshell Ndgeocello as their influences, it is obvious that their tastes are intelligent. Listening to Olio not only supports this impression, but it also compliments such great artists as the aforementioned. Today, Arif is the leader/best friend and DeHaven the swashbuckler/charmer. Yet, their chemistry is undeniable. The ability to communicate and express passion is a gift. Spreading love and hope through music is realized. Olio is truly the past, the present and the future of timeless music. In 1997, Arif, and Tony Shibumi, artists known as Vivid, release the first single, “Mind." It gains popularity within college and university radio stations across the country. DeHaven joins in August of 1997. The name officially changes to Olio in 1998. The debut CD, titled “ain’t no party like an Olio party...LIVE” hits stores and radio stations in 1999. Olio choose to capture what they do best in a 13-song live album. The refreshing energy and innovative musical approach provides a heart racing, hip shaking, interactive experience. "Sagacity" and "Olio Party" are stand out tracks. Late February of 2000, "The Vivid Tapes" are released. The 5 song CD goes back to their roots. The recording features Arif and Tony, before DeHaven, from 1996 and 1997 recording sessions. Tony plays drums on three of the songs. This collection includes "Mind." The 2001 EP titled "3P" marks the first official studio release by Olio. Three well crafted songs with rich, dynamic production takes Olio to fiery heights filled with attitude, emotion and atmosphere. The beautiful song "Love You I Do" is destined to be a classic. As of June 2002, Tony Shibumi is no longer in the band. However, Olio are back in the studio finishing up their first full length studio album "Colour of Music." Thanks to the internet, fans from around the world look forward to this 2002 release. Now, so do you.

    Press Reviews
"...brilliant, animated, lifelike, and distinct. Any of those words would be appropriate for this trio, which combines a wanton, experimental funk groove - often featuring the mysterious 10-stringed Chapman stick (not to be confused withChapstick) - with eloquent soulfulness." - Buzz Magazine "Funk, all funk, and nothing but the funk. The two year old band romped through songs that included touches of "Shaft," Morris Day and Prince. The ballad, "Still Can't Let You Go," featured pleasant harmonies and sexy, slow talkby Shibumi. All the players handled their instruments superbly and the vocal harmonies are hot. Shibumi's Latin-flavored bodiless bass work on "Sagacity" was a standout. Band members frequently jumped into the crowd to keep things stirred up. Confident performances from all the players left no doubt that these guys are pros. If funk-pop is what you want, Olio delivers it admirably." - Music Connection "a funk/power trio with deep pocket, nasty groove and vivid imagination" - Modern Drummer "Combining a variety of musical flavors that include funk, soul and rock to name a few, Olio deliver 13 tasty tunes on this live recording. Based out of Burbank, CA, Olio, the band that has been grabbing attention from both coasts, boasts a mean groove and exemplary musicianship on this CD, blending their various styles to create a lush musical landscape. But as serious as they are about their music, Olio is also a fun outfit, quite adept at working a house as evidenced on, Keep It Strong. There's little doubt, Ain't No Party Like An Olio Party, is just the beginning for this innovative and talented trio." - The Musician's Trade Journal
