Artist description
grant often plays by himself; the other children find him somehow *uncanny*. grant once did time for stealing tissue samples from the brains of Albert Einstein and Bob Dylan. By the time the authorities found him, he had wired the samples (floating placidly in two bell jars) together with strips of tin foil and duct tape. No permanent damage was done, Mr. Dylan received his brain tissue in time to go on tour, and grant eventually got off on appeal. His only explanation for his actions, according to court papers: "Devo made me do it." |

Artist History
History of band: 1988: grant' first project, the all-Joy-Division cover band "Angst" implodes. He spends the next three years muttering about "New Dawn Fades" and going on extended retreats, where he contemplates Cramps albums and engages in pickled okra & smoked mullet fasts. 1994: a long heart to heart with musician friends harry monkhorst and merlin mann snap grant out of his nitrate-addled funk. Once clean, he tours South Florida coffeehouses and acoustic festivals with his nylon-stringed rockabilly ensemble "Homer Halftone and the Rocket Boys." 1996: At 3:25 am on August 9, grant's 1957 Chrysler Newport throws a rod on the lonely stretch of Everglades highway known as "Alligator Alley". While the rest of the band attempt to flag down a passing 18-wheeler, grant goes into the cypress thicket to relieve himself. It is there, in those humble circumstances, that he first encounters the Enlightened Guitar Being simpler souls know only as "The Skunk Ape". After zipping himself up, grant slowly begins what will turn into a lifelong project -- true cross-species communication. He is allowed a brief glimpse of that quantum plane of existence he labels the String Bardo, and vows to return to his new teacher every summer. The rest of the band, unable to believe or comprehend the transformation their leader has undergone, goes back to selling surfboards, stacking produce and repairing VCRs. 1998: grant begins his spiritual journey, spreading the word, studying applied physics and working minor miracles. No open mike night, no remote Waffle House, no seemingly-deserted stretch of sawgrass prairie is safe from the relentess tunesmithing of the mysterious swamp guardian's protege. |
