Artist History
JOEL KROEKER is an alt./folk/pop/singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who has been writing and performing professionally since 1990 in Folk, Jazz, Classical and Rock ensembles. Joel established a name for himself in his hometown of Winnipeg as a composer and performer and has recently relocated to Edmonton, Alberta. On May 23, 1999 Joel won the Brass Monkey Edmonton Singer/Songwriter Competition. He has recently appeared on TV and radio across Canada and has performed with his band "The Joel Kroeker Collective" at various festivals and clubs across Western Canada.Joel has recently shared the stage with Linda MaCrae (Spirit of the West), Captain Tractor, The Molestics, Kinnie Starr, The McDades, Mike Plume, Lester Quitzau, Zubot and Dawson, and Bill Bourne. His performances have received rave reviews and comments from industry professionals such as Kirby (SEE Magazine), Roger Levesque (Edmonton Journal) and Gary McGowan (Vue).He recently released a full length CD entitled "Naive Bohemian" which has just hit number 10 on the Canadian National Campus Radio Specialty Charts. He has recently returned from a 3200 km Western Canadian Tour to promote the album, and has just completed a film soundtrack for the Canadian indie short "Tokyo Gardens".Joel graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Guitar Performance and is currently working on a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies at the University of Alberta. Joel was selected as a showcasing composer for the International Saxophone Quartet Competition featuring the Vienna Saxophone Quartet and has had his jazz, classical, and electroacoustic works performed across Canada |
