Jaka is a World Beat dance band playing African instruments that most have never seen before and exuberant songs of exotic, interwoven rhythms, melodies and rich harmonies. Jaka's music is a blend of the traditions of Zimbabwe with the American influences of funk and rock to create a joyful, highly danceable, tropical sound. |

Artist History
Jaka was born in 1997 out of Dan Pauli's and David Schaldach's love for and decades-long study of the traditional music of Zimbabwe, along with their friend Peter Swing. The two met in Portland in 1987 while playing and studying the music under master musician and ethnomusicologist, Dumi Maraire, and have been playing together off and on ever since. |
