Artist History
Prometheus is Geoffrey B. Shellard, most noteably of late as the frontman for Canada's Tinmen, a techno-pop trio that made "intelligient, melodic dance music." Always a huge presence on stage, Geoffrey has a voice with echos of his influences, yet with a sound all his own.
In 1995, Prometheus grew from a desire to create music that had no boundaries other than the equipment available to him. So it began with a Yamaha PSR-18 (samba, anyone?), a duel-cassette player as a duel-track recorder, a mini-cassette recorder for a mic, his VCR, and an answering machine for tape loops. Nothing was too low end to become what would be lo-fi music at its finest.
As the technology became available to him, the sound of Prometheus entered into a new stage of lo-fi; 8-bit mono recordings utilizing samples and one all-purpose recording device...the Windows Sound Recorder! After 40 plus tracks, it was time for yet another evolution.
Geoffrey would upgrade his hardware, software and sample catalogue to create the music that would grow in megabytes and megahertz. However, after tragedy struck in the form of faulty hardware, the majority of the Prometheus song catalogue would be lost in its original form, only to be spared as MP3 files on this very web site. That music has been identified on this site as G3 (Generation 3). All other songs (in descending order from the top) are 4th Generation Prometheus music.
As a part of G3, and soon to be released, are Prometheus' remix for Fidgital, "Hit & Run (The Mix Fits the Crime)," and a let untitled remix to Landscape Body Machine's new single, "Revolution." You can also hear Prometheus' first remix for Fidgital, "Social Disease (Dionysus Mix)." Enjoy! |
