    Artist description
Performances of requiem mass, "A Prayer for the Dying", based on the prayers from the Tibetan Book of the Dead, as well as unusually sensual yet spiritual music preformed on the rare and exotic 12-String Guitarra de Maya.
    Musical Influences
Andre Segovia, a yogi with a veena, a Taos shaman, and the spiritual traditions of the Middle East, Japan, India, Tibet, and the ancient Americas.
    Artist History
John Morgan Newbern first appeared in 1968 under the name "Malachi", with his first major release, "Malachi/Holy Music" on the M.G.M.-Verve label. John's performances have always been considered unique, and are said to be one of the early influences in the birth of the New Age genre. However so, John feels that these performances are perhaps more "ancient age" than "New Age". Either way, it is definately a fusion of world sounds.
    Instruments
12-string Guitarra de Maya, Drums and other Percussion, Bamboo Flute, and both Analog and Digital Synthesyzers.
    Albums
A Prayer for the Dying, Just Playing for the Moon
    Press Reviews
Playboy Magazine; "...eerily stirring!" ................. Allen Ginsberg, poet; "He listens quietly to himself and then plays what he can of what he hears. Poe would have enjoyed his presence." ......................... Michael Harner, anthropologist; "He is not imitating, nor only combining different cultural patterns, but is discovering,...those sounds and feelings which have lain dormant under the conditioned 'reality' of Western civilization."
