Artist History
The writing for this project began when the band members were all in the same grade level in the same high school where they met, Mercyhurst Prep, back when they were 17 years old in 1990. It was originally meant to be an audio cassette spin-off of a public access television show they performed in Erie, Pennsylvania. That TV show was called "No Budget Theatre," and was mainly written and performed by Jeremy Hancock, Jay Kennedy, and Eric Pronko (all three conceived the show, as well, in 1989.) Some of this music was used in the closing credits of No Budget Theatre, and often was played in their school cafeteria during lunch breaks (all three members had DJ positions there at one time or another.) After they graduated, Jay went to college in Erie, and Eric & Jeremy attended school out of town. Half the album was already written by the three of them, but at this point, it was nearly impossible to finish the record as a band since they were all split up in different cities so often. One of Jay's majors was Communications, so he had access to a good amount of production equipment, and decided to complete the record on his own, having Eric & Jeremy review the songs and decide what was Kosher IV material and what wasn't. This album was actually three times as long as it is, but so much of the material was VERY irrelevant to the original concept Eric/Jay/Jeremy had in mind, and the more Jay worked on his own, the more removed from the original point his material became (heavily due to not having his friends collaborating with him, and partly due to his desire to make the comedy slightly more abstract and bitter.) What is kept here is all the material Eric/Jay/Jeremy wrote together, and the material Jay wrote within 6 months of the last material ever written with his friends, which keeps the original focus of the band's original sonic intent. Bear in mind that in a perfect world, all three would have preferred a collaboration on this entire release, but life isn't perfect. The more abstract cut-up collage material on this recording is Jay's, whereas the more conventionally humorous tracks represent the talents of the entire trio. No more music will be made under IV, unless it is made involving the very same trio. For the time being, the band is labelled as "broken up." Jay Kennedy - 1/01/2000 |
