Artist description
Idiot Sin records at Lower Riviera Studios in Santa Barbara, CA. where two of its founding members reside: The Idiot is both the lyricist and the powerful iconoclastic voice for the group. An English Major who speaks Japanese fluently, his lyrics, like his other poetry slithers in a swirling stream of consciousness, subtle double meanings often emerging. Younger brother Dominic contributes his guitar and keyboard playing, aside from taking on the group's studio engineering duties. They are joined by old friends and relatives, fellow song adventurers like Marc Beutel, a doctoral student from Cal Berkeley who weighs in his guitar and vocals on occasional visits to town, and oldest brother Vin, a refined guitarist who provides that tasty bit of musical excellence. Together, the sometimes dark, often comic, and always desperate spirit of Idiot Sin is excorcised. From its outset over a decade ago, Idiot Sin still strives to make as bold and raw a statement as their talents will allow, usually spearheaded by the Idiot's merging of heavy metal and operatic vocal nuances, a characteristic tailor made for his singing prowess. Toss into this spicy gumbo influences ranging from New Age to metal through Vaudeville, and a never tiring fascination with dark, even downright smutty, but always tongue-in-cheek themes, and one arrives at the unique sound dish, Idiot Sin. Artist History
Idiot Sin Originated as a basement project in the damp cellar of a Chico, CA. home in the late 80's where its founding members attended the State University. While some of these musicians were also playing around town in cover bands, (anyone remember Loosely Tyde?) the Sin sessions provided a more creative outlet where originality and often audacity flourished. The goal was never to book gigs or produce great recordings (their recording device was an old boom-box) but only to let loose, often spontaneously, with no fear, and certainly, no shame. |
