Artist History
An original blend of pop and experimental compositions, soaring space guitars, analog and digital synthesis, Delay Tactics was among the most innovative indie bands of the 1980s. Formed in 1981 as the tape-looping duo of guitarists Carl Weingarten and Reed Nesbit, Delay Tactics made its mark with late night concerts in St. Louis movie theatres. Within a year, synthesist/sound designer Walter Whitney joined the band while recording the first Delay Tactics album, Out-Pop Options. Nesbit departed in 1983 and was replaced by guitarist David Udell (of Wax Theatricks) and Delay Tactics released their second album, Any Questions? in 1984. Highly praised by Musician, Keyboard, Option and other publications, Delay Tactics became a hit on college radio, receiving extensive play throughout the U.S., including flagship stations KCRW in Los Angeles and WNYC in New York. Delay Tactics music will soon be reissued for the first time on CD. In the mean time, check out the free MP3 tracks, and Delay Tactics' second recording, Any Questions? as a DAM CD. |

Press Reviews
"This Midwestern trio has developed a sound that captures all the quirky pop appeal of Brian Eno's early solo work, while maintaining a compositional rigor that would do Philip Glass proud. Which means that not only are the cuts texturally interesting, they're delightfully tuneful." - JD CONSIDINE, MUSICIAN MAGAZINE "Walter Whitney and David Udell are the synthesizer players in an instrumental rock set that seems influenced by non-ambient Eno and perhaps Bill Nelson. What makes the album (Any Questions?) stimulating is that they really seem to be thinking about sonorities rather than falling into cliches. Some of the tunes lean toward the exotic, but less because the musicians are trying to be exotic than because they aren't taking anything for granted. They're doing what the music calls for. Recommended." -KEYBOARD MAGAZINE |
