Artist History
In 1977 four Brooklyn, N.Y. musicians united to create a recording atmosphere free of artistic boundaries. James Chakedis turned his basement into a studio packed with recording hardware, soundproofing and wires. Coupled with the high-tech analog recording gear of the time, the quartet coined themselves DADA, after the artistic renegades of the early 1900s, and spent almost a year producing whatever they damn well pleased. The results pushed the artistic boundaries of rock and pop as the four musicians addressed a number of reality-rock based songs written by James Chakedis and Frank Cotolo. They painted with sound, using broad strokes, and accomplished their tasks most of the time under the influence of various stimulants, some not so legal.By mid-1978 enough tracks for an album were completed. What is being posted on mp3.com now are the original mixes of DADA's assault on "Art Rock," presented as they were created, way before there was digital recording, samples or anything computer-related used to produce music. This pocket of rebellious artistry can now be heard in all of its glory thanks to the wonders of today's technology. This site now makes available for anyone who gives a rat's ass, the ill-fated album "The Hard Guys" on a DAM-CD, for posterity's sake! There are more DADA tracks and they will be collected and encoded and presented here throughout 2000. |
