    Artist History
The music industry is a hard place to exist. If you make it through it all to reach stardom then you are one of the few fortunate musicians in the world. Every band big and small has to have gone on this journey to the top. Some die off, and others become household names. The one true thing about the music industry is you only have one name; one chance at success; One Shot. This is the meaning of the band Shot One. Since you only have one shot to prove yourself, you have to make it count with something great. Shot One was spawned in 1995 by Brett Herman, a young guitarist from Longmont, Colorado. He spent most of his time practicing and looking for people to make music with. That summer he met Nick Long, who played the bass guitar. The two became friends after talking at a party. They wrote a lot of music over the next several months and came across a drummer named Jesse Davis. The three spent nearly a year writing music and looking for singers, but nothing worked for them. Members came and went, and it started to seem hopeless for the band. But in the summer of 1997, Herman and Longs’ good friend Javan Speirs moved to Colorado and became the singer for the band. Shot One was now complete, however problems laid in the distance like a far away thunder storm. Davis and Speirs had many problems and could not maintain a good working atmosphere. This sent the band into a downfall that lasted for months. After dealing with all of the problems Davis quit the band. Shot One was now without a drummer. In 1998, they talked to longtime friend and guitarist Randy Paluszak to experiment with him as a guitarist. Herman assumed the role of drummer. They wrote the rough draft to "Distraught" and immediately realized this was what all four were looking for as a sound. Speirs used the "Distraught" idea from friend Charlie Derksen, and with his consent, used it for the song. That December, the band talked to Rudy Garcia, a drummer and friend from Junior High. They brought the equipment to Garcia’s basement and started playing with Herman back on guitar. The band seemed complete. After feuds escalated with Speirs, Shot One was forced to kick him out. Derksen, who was overlooked the first time now had his opportunity to prove himself to the band. After a short decision, Garcia, Herman, Long and Paluszak agreed to have Derksen sing and Shot One was now complete.
