Musical Influences Born and educated in the UK but currently resident in South Africa, Michael Alachouzos (the composer of Equitonica's music) describes himself as "Basically, a classical composer in the baroque tradition". His music, however, often reflects the influence of a wide variety of other genres - including rock, romantic, electronic and even jazz! "I don't much care for conventional classifications in music", he says. "They are for academics - not for music lovers. What I try to do is the sort of music which people will remember because it is based on melodies which stick in your head. No one really wants stuff which is terribly clever but which you can't remember for five minutes after it has stopped playing. Melody and memorability are the thing. I try to write classical music which people will actually want to hear. I think that I am slowly getting there".
