The big dream at the time was to make $300.00 a week and drive a Cadillac. Well, young Claude met his lifetime sweetheart Lisette Veilleux in 1960. Both made plans to come to the United States of America. They both crossed the border into the United States and got married in June 1963. Neither of them could speak English. The young couple started to raise a family with Lisette staying at home to raise the family. Claude went from laborer, to drywaller, to carpenter, to foreman and supervisor, sticking with the construction industry. On November 6, 1971 he started his own drywall business. His goal was to gross $200,000 of business that first year. That first year turned out to be $2,000,000. This drywall business became one of the largest drywall organizations ever in New England employing 300 to 500 men. 1977 came around and Claude started a General Contracting business, and Real Estate Investment and Development business in the state. One of his major acquisitions was 90,000 acres of timberland in New Hampshire and Vermont for $19,000,000. On this one deal, Rancourt owned land in 37 different towns, making him the largest individual land owner ever in New England and possibly the country. He said this is the kind of deal that not too many people have made in their lifetime. Today, Claude Rancourt specializes in manufactured housing with an office in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
